Russell's Annual Christmas Festival Weihnachtsfest is December 10
Weihnachtsfest, Russell's annual Christmas festival presented by Russell Main Street, Inc. (RMSI), is Saturday, December 10 from 11 AM to 2 PM.
Weihnachtsfest is an over 25 year tradition to downtown Russell.
During Weihnachtsfest, the community is invited downtown to enjoy the famous Santa giveaway, extended store hours, retail Christmas promotion, carriage rides, Santa's workshop, food vendors, craft vendors, pictures with Santa, Christmas music, crafts at the Russell Public Library, a free movie at the Dream Theater and more.
"Weihnachtsfest is a way to get everyone downtown to support our local businesses, promote our downtown and build community pride," Krista Whitmer, RMSI Executive Director, said.
The retail Christmas promotion will begin on November 20. Punch cards can be found in participating businesses. Shop participating businesses and receive a punch for every $10 spent. After all punches are fulfilled the card can be entered into a drawing for $800 in Main Street Bucks. Locations will be printed on the backside of each promotion card.
The Santa giveaway will take place on December 10 at 1:30 PM in a location business to be determined. The giveaway consists of a specially handcrafted Santa Claus by Loretta Miller. The Santa Claus will be displayed in the showcase at the corner of Main and 7th Street.
Weihnachtsfest buttons will be sold until December 10 for the Santa giveaway. The buttons are hand drawn by Ruppenthal Middle School students, an over 15 year tradition. The buttons can be purchased at the RMSI office at 207 East 8th Street or in participating businesses.
Weihnachtsfest buttons can also be used during the carriage rides December 10 for a free carriage ride. All other rides will be $2 per ride.
"The Main Street Christmas celebration offers so much to our community. Come downtown on the 10th and check out the food vendors, shop local, get pictures with Santa, take the family on a carriage ride and get into the Christmas spirit. Everyone is invited to this event," Whitmer said.
