City of Russell Fire Department Responds to Truck Fire

At 10:25 AM on September 22, the City of Russell Fire Department was paged to just behind the residence at 917 East 7th Street in Russell for the report of a truck on fire.

According to a press release from Fire Chief Dylan Riedel, crews arriving on scene observed smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment of the truck.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and had the fire out in under five minutes.

Crews remained on scene to ensure there were no flare ups. There was minor heat and smoke damage to a nearby tree, however, the main portion of fire damage was contained to the truck.

The operator of the vehicle had advised the truck was having mechanical issues earlier in the week. The cause of the fire is ruled as accidental caused by a malfunction in the engine compartment.
