Colorado Man Dies in Crash Near Ellsworth

A Colorado man died in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday near Ellsworth.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at 9:32 AM on March 22, a 2004 Toyota Highlander driven by 70-year-old Donald J. Svita of Pueblo, Colorado was eastbound on Kansas Highway 140 at the Kansas Highway 156 and K-140 junction one and a half miles south of Ellsworth.

A 2006 Peterbuilt semi driven by 39-year-old Luke W. Johnson of Randolph pulling a Timpe trailer was southbound on K-156.

The Toyota failed to stop at the stop sign and the semi struck the Toyota.

Svita was taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Johnson was taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center with possible injuries.

Neither driver was buckled up at the time of the crash.
