As of 5 PM, Monday, July 19, Russell County has had 876 total positive cases of COVID-19 since tracking began, an increase of two from last week, according to the Russell County Health Department.

There have been 847 recovered cases, 61 hospitalizations with no current hospitalizations and 23 deaths. There are currently nine in quarantine.

The cumulative positivity rate for last week was 15.2 percent. The cumulative positivity rate for this week is 100 percent. The cumulative positivity rate for July is 10.8 percent.

The Russell County Health Department found out Monday that one of the positive cases had tested positive for the Delta variant. The case that had this variant recovered at home without incident. Russell County has had no recent hospitalizations due to COVID.

Although vaccination is not 100 percent, it is the best option against COVID, including the variants. Pfizer and Moderna continue to have 95 percent and 94 percent efficacy respectively where Johnson & Johnson is 66 percent effective. All three vaccines are extremely effective in preventing severe symptoms. The Health Department is still providing the COVID vaccine.

Call the Health Department at 785-483-6433 to schedule an appointment to get vaccinated. Pfizer is now approved for children 12 and older. The Health Department can provide Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
