Even with some recent rainfall in the region, drought conditions continue to persist and worsen across Kansas.

According to the latest US Drought Monitor report released Thursday, exceptional drought conditions remain in large portions of western and southern Kansas.

Extreme drought conditions stretch into the southern two-thirds of Russell County. The northern third of Russell County is in severe and moderate drought.

Even a majority of north central and northeast Kansas are now experiencing moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions.

Dry weather is the current forecast for the next week in Russell County.
