Know the Candidates: August 6 Primary Election

The Kansas Primary Election will be held August 6 and there are several contested races in Russell County.

The Russell County Commission is of course expanding from three to five members in 2025 and the only current seat not up for election in 2024 is District 1 held by Steve Reinhardt.

According to the Russell County Clerk's Office, for Russell County Commissioner District 2, Republicans Jason Krug and Todd Schneider and Democrat Brad Zweifel filed. For County Commissioner District 3, incumbent Republican Duke Strobel, Democrat Charmarose Craven and Republican Teresa Brandenburg filed. For Commissioner District 4, Republican John Fletcher, Democrat Neil Unrein and Republican Dean Haselhorst filed. Fletcher has since passed away, but will remain on the Primary Election ballot. And for Commissioner District 5, Republicans Mitch Driscoll, Kevin Mravinec, Alan Kuntzsch, Anthony Mahoney and Jamie Gage and Democrat Tom Mahoney filed.

Current District 2 Commissioner Daron Woelk is not seeking reelection.

For Russell County Treasurer, incumbent Republican Trisha Strobel will face Republican Kristin Bay.

For state office, incumbent Republican Crystal Leigh Miner of Russell will face Republican Aaron Steinert of Russell for District Magistrate Judge District 20 Position 3.
