Red Flag Warning

The fire danger remains high across much of the state of the Kansas, including the Russell County area.

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for Monday and Tuesday for much of southwest, central and northern Kansas.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Daytime highs in the upper 80s are expected on Monday and Tuesday with southwest winds gusting to 30 and 40 mph at times and relative humidity levels dropping to 15 to 20 percent.

Any fires that start will spread quickly and be difficult to control.

Highs will remain in the 80s through Friday with a cold front arriving Friday evening and dropping temperatures back in the 60s and 70s over the weekend. There are slight chances of raining the forecast Tuesday and Friday evenings, otherwise dry conditions are expected to continue.
