RJSHS Placed Under Lockdown Wednesday Afternoon
Russell Junior-Senior High School was placed under lockdown for a brief time on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Russell Police Department, at approximately 1:58 PM Russell County Communications received a report from RJSHS regarding a threatening phone call received by the school.
Similar threats have been reported across the state.
At this time, investigators do not believe there to be a credible threat. However, as a precautionary measure, officers were placed at every school attendance center within the district.
The safety and security of students, faculty and staff remain the highest priority. Officials want to reassure the community that strong coordination among local and state law enforcement agencies continues to help ensure a safe environment for all students and employees.
The Russell Police Department thanks the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Russell County Communications, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and USD 407 for their assistance and continued partnership.
Additional information will be released if necessary.
As an added precaution, USD 407 canceled all sports practices for Wednesday.
