Russell County Businesses Receive Grant Money

In June of 2020, Russell County applied for a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant funded by the Federal CARES Act to help businesses deal with issues triggered by COVID-19.

The county was awarded $173,600: $123,600 for business grants, $35,000 for the Russell County Food Pantry and $15,000 toward the grant administration fee.

Economic Development Grant applications were open and advertised for a 30-day period, which ended on August 12.

Russell County Eco Devo received 13 qualified applications requesting over $320,000 - two and a half times more than the funds available.

The submitted applications were approved by the Kansas Department of Commerce in December and $123,000 was distributed to the 13 Russell County businesses.

So far, the Russell County Food Pantry has received $29,000 in CDBG-CV funds.
