Many of the families the Russell County Food Pantry serves will not be able to provide a special holiday meal for Thanksgiving.

Once again, the Food Pantry is having a share the holidays with your neighbor campaign.

The Russell County Food Pantry will prepare Thanksgiving food boxes and Christmas food boxes for families who would otherwise not be able to afford these special meals.

The Food Pantry Board estimates the average cost of each basket at $40 and all the basics for a ham dinner will be provided.

Any donation amount is appreciated.

If you would like to contribute toward the purchase of a basket, please make your check out to the Russell County Food Pantry and mail it to 15 North Front Street, Russell, KS 67665.

Those who need help with the holiday meals may pick up the forms from any church in Russell County, the Russell County Health Department, or the Department for Children and Families.

In the past, the community has responded well to this campaign. Last year, the Food Pantry provided holiday meals for over 125 families.

The signup deadline for Thanksgiving is November 1. The Christmas deadline is December 1.

If the family is signed up by the Thanksgiving deadline they do not need to sign up for Christmas.

No list is kept from year to year. No one is automatically signed up.

To receive a box, the family must reside in Russell County.
