The Russell County Health Department will begin offering booster shots to people who have received the Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

On Friday, October 22, Russell County Health Department Administrator Paula Bitter sent out a release outlining eligibility for the booster.

For those who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine:

  • Six months or longer after receipt of the initial series,
  • Age 65 and older,
  • Age 18 and older who live in long-term care settings,
  • Age 18 and older who have underlying medical conditions, or
  • Age 18 and older who work or live in high-risk settings.

For those who received the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine:

  • Two months or longer after receipt of vaccine and
  • Age 18 and older.

As the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is allowing individuals to mix and match the booster vaccine, eligible individuals may choose which vaccine is preferred.
