Russell's Piper Brown Exhibits Grand Champion Wheat Sample at State Fair

During the 2024 wheat harvest, local producers were encouraged to have local grain elevators collect samples for the 2024 Market Wheat Show.

Many samples were exhibited at county fairs and winning samples were exhibited at the Kansas State Fair in September.

Piper Brown of Russell exhibited the Grand Champion sample with an entry of LCS Mint. Jerry DeWeese of Pratt exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion sample with an entry Doublestop CL+.

The other winners include:

Class 1 All Hard White Wheat Varieties first place Kenneth Gerstberger of Wichita County with Joe and second place J. Frank Mages of Ford County with KS Silverado.

Class 2 All Hard Red Winter Blends first place Gerald Mai of Russell County, second place Karl Baxa of Republic County, third place Greg Meires of Pratt County and fourth place Darren Hodgkensen of Pratt County.

Class 3 All Other Private HRW Varieties or Hybrids first place Piper Brown of Russell County with LCS Mint, second place Russell Lewis of Wichita County with Wolverine, third place Riffey Farms of Pratt County with SY Achieve and fourth place Langsold Farms of Pratt County with LCS Photon AX.

Class 4 All Westbred/Monsanto Varieties first place Holden Hope of Russell County with WB 4595, second place Gary Berning of Wichita County with WB 4422, third place Michael Schmeider of Ellis County with WB Grainfield, fourth place Chadd Yost of Kiowa County with Winterhawk and fifth place 3T Farms of Edwards County with WB 4422.

Class 5 All KSU HRW Varieties first place Leon Dunn of Stafford County with Overly, second place Luke Smith of Wichita County with KS Dallas, third place Marit Ehmke of Lane County with Oakley CL, fourth place Greg Turek of Sumner County with KS Mako and fifth place Brian Dunn of Stafford County with Overly.

Class 6 All Other Public HRW Varieties first place Jerry DeWeese of Pratt County with Doublestop CL, second place Merl Ney of Russell County with Doublestop CL, third place 3B Farms of Pratt County with Doublestop CL, fourth place Field and Sons of Pratt County with Doublestop CL and fifth place Reed Farms of Gray County with TAM 114.
