Semi Overturns Near Russell Along I-70 Thursday Afternoon

Exit 184 near Russell along Interstate 70 was closed for a brief time Thursday afternoon after a semi overturned due to high winds.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, a 2025 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on I-70 when it entered the median, crossed it and rolled on to the drivers side. The semi came to rest facing east in the westbound lanes.

The 73-year-old driver from Winston Salem, North Carolina was injured and taken to Russell Regional Hospital.

The accident happened at 1:42 PM near I-70 mile marker 183.9, one mile west of US Highway 281.
