On Thursday, September 22, law enforcement officers with the Russell Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol engaged in an operation to locate wanted fugitive Adam Keener.

According to a press release from Chief of Police Jordan Harrison, at around Noon, officers responded to a residence in the 1300 block of North Lincoln Street in Russell to speak with an acquaintance of Keener.

While speaking with a resident at the address, the odor of marijuana was observed coming from inside the residence. Officers secured the residence in preparation for a search warrant.

The search warrant was granted and a search of the residence commenced. Numerous items regarding the use and sale of marijuana and methamphetamine were located and seized as evidence.

38-year-old Taylor Daniel and 29-year-old Ashley Pena, both of Russell, were arrested and transported to the Russell County Jail for processing. Recommended charges for both include distribution of narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
