Two Arrested for Drugs in Russell Following Search Warrant

On Thursday, September 22, law enforcement officers with the Russell Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol engaged in an operation to locate wanted fugitive Adam Keener.

According to a press release from Chief of Police Jordan Harrison, at around Noon, officers responded to a residence in the 1300 block of North Lincoln Street in Russell to speak with an acquaintance of Keener.

While speaking with a resident at the address, the odor of marijuana was observed coming from inside the residence. Officers secured the residence in preparation for a search warrant.

The search warrant was granted and a search of the residence commenced. Numerous items regarding the use and sale of marijuana and methamphetamine were located and seized as evidence.

38-year-old Taylor Daniel and 29-year-old Ashley Pena, both of Russell, were arrested and transported to the Russell County Jail for processing. Recommended charges for both include distribution of narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
