Two Injured in Two-Semi Crash on Interstate 70 in Ellis County

Two people were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-semi crash on Interstate 70 in Ellis County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at 1:18 PM Sunday, a 2004 Freightliner truck tractor towing a trailer was on the north shoulder of westbound I-70 near Walker disabled. 35-year-old Melvin Aguilar-Rios of Jewett City, Connecticut was in the sleeper berth of the truck.

A 2022 Peterbilt truck tractor driven by 59-year-old Terry J. Fox of Brookfield, Ohio and towing a trailer struck the Freightliner, continued westbound, came to rest on the I-70 overpass over Old Highway 40 near Walker and caught fire.

Fox was transported to Hays Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. She was buckled up at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the Peterbilt, 62-year-old Robert Lee Fox of Brookfield, Ohio, who was in the sleeper berth of the truck at the time of the accident, was taken to Hays Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

Aguilar-Rios was not taken to the hospital.

The crash closed I-70 and Highway 40 for a few hours Sunday.
