3-Peat! Hammerschmidt Wins 3rd Straight 1A Long Jump Title, Adds 100m Crown

Victoria's Macy Hammerschmidt had just about the best ending to a high school track career any athlete could hope for at the Class 1A State Track and Field meet on Saturday at Wichita's Cessna Stadium.
Hammerschmidt, a Fort Hays State signee, won her third consecutive Class 1A State Championship in the Long Jump with a 17 feet, seven and three quarter inches and then about 20 minutes later, added the 100-meter title to her collection after losing out by one-hundredth of a second last year. Hammerschmidt's time in the race was 12.44.
While Hammerschmidt was the star of the day on Saturday, two members of the Victoria Boys Track and Field team competed in the Class 1A meet on Friday.
Landon Schmidtberger competed in the Long Jump finished 15th before turning in a personal best in the Triple Jump by finishing 12th. Freshman Ethan Von Lintel put a cap on his Freshman season with a 13th-place finish in the 400-meter run.
