#4 Natoma Cruises in Opener

NATOMA-Freshman Quarterback Trey Bright threw seven touchdown passes and Kayden Martinez scored five total touchdowns as the Natoma Tigers rolled to an 87-0 season-opening victory over Deerfield Friday evening in 6-Man Football action at Tiger Field.

Deerfield's longest play of the night occurred on the opening kickoff but two plays later, Javon Letsch recovered a fumble and the Tigers never looked back. 

Martinez raced 30 yards for a touchdown on Natoma's second play from scrimmage which began a 48-point scoring spree in the first quarter.  The other scores were as a result of a 31-yard touchdown pass from Bright to Tracen Frye, a 38-yard run by Derek George, a 29-yard scoring pass from Bright to Frye, a two-yard interception return for a score by George, a 23-yard pass from Bright to Letsch and an eight yard run by Martinez.

The second quarter scoring consisted of a 31-yard pass from Bright to Martinez, a five yard pass from Bright to Ricky Mayberry lll, a 19-yard pass from Bright to Martinez, a 39-yard run by Martinez, a 16-yard pass from Bright to Frye and a 26-yard run by Frye.  The game ended at halftime due to the mercy rule.

Bright completed eight of 10 passes for 149 yards and seven touchdowns.  Martinez scored three rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns and Frye scored four times including three receiving touchdown and his rushing touchdown.  

The Tiger defense also forced five Deerfield turnovers and held the Spartans to 19 total yards while amassing 316 of their own on offense.

Fourth-ranked Natoma (1-0) will take to the road for the first time this season on September 10 with a trip to Almena to take on Northern Valley.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
