The Russell High School Bronco boys track and field team capped a successful season by collecting hardware on the second and final day of the Class 3A State Track and Field meet on Saturday, May 27 at Wichita's Cessna Stadium.

After advancing out of preliminaries early in the day with a seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash, Jacob Ney turned in a strong showing with an eighth place finish in the finals.

Ney then combined with teammates Walker Middleton, Brayden Strobel and Jace Peerman to finish sixth in the 4x100 meter run.

Strobel highlighted the Broncos showing at state by capturing the state championship on Friday in the high jump, making it two state titles in three years for RHS in that event after Peerman was top finisher in 2021.  Peerman, who has signed to run at Fort Hays State, finished third in the event this year.

Strobel also finished eighth in the in the long jump for the second of what turned out to be three medals won at the state competition. Macy Patterson, the lone Lady Bronco to qualify for state, finished 11th in the discus.
