Clay Center Claims K-18 Baseball Championship with Shutout Win over Beloit
Clay Center, bolstered by dominant pitching completed a magical run to the State Championship with a 7-0 win over Beloit Blue on Wednesday evening at the 74th Annual K-18 State Baseball Tournament at the Lucas Ballpark.
Clay Center had given up just one run in their first two games of the tournament, defeating Ellis 6-0 in their first game last Saturday, July 26 and then routing Clifton-Clyde 15-1 in the semifinals on Sunday, July 27. Beloit Blue, which won the Sportsmanship Trophy went into Wednesday's final without surrendering a single run in victories over Norton and Atwood.
In Wednesday's Third Place game, Clifton-Clyde tallied a late run to squeak out a 6-5 win over Atwood.
