ELLINWOOD-Freshman Reece Stickney scored 15 points as Ellinwood held off a furious late charge by Otis-Bison to secure a 35-29 victory in Central Prairie League Basketball action Friday evening at Ellinwood Junior-Senior High School.

The Lady Eagles led 15-4 after one quarter and stretched their lead to 24-14 by halftime.  Ellinwood's advantage grew to as much as 33-16 in the opening moments of the fourth quarter before the Lady Cougars went on a 13-2 tear to close the gap but the comeback was too little, too late.

With the victory, Ellinwood (5-14, 2-7 CPL) broke a five-game losing streak.  Destiny Mitchell led Otis-Bison (7-13, 3-6 CPL) with 10 points.

The Boys game was a back and forth affair for much of the first half before Ellinwood seized control in the second half and hung on for a 52-48 win over the visitors from Otis-Bison.

Otis-Bison led 11-9 after the first quarter and increased their margin to 14-9 early in the second period before Ellinwood scored five quick points to tie the score at 14-14.  The Cougars then went on a six-point surge to regain the lead at 20-14 before Ellinwood used a 12-0 run to lead 26-20 and eventually settled for a 26-23 edge at the break.

At different points in the second half, Ellinwood led by as many as 10 points but Otis-Bison as was the case in the Girls game, closed the gap late but simply ran out of time.  The Cougars had eight more free throw attempts than the Eagles but didn't help their cause by making just four of nine free throws in the second half.

Landon Simpson led Ellinwood (10-9, 5-4 CPL) with a game-high 21 points while Jake Hoopingarner paced Otis-Bison (5-15, 2-7 CPL) with 18 points.
