GOW: Sylvan-Lucas Earns NPL Sweep in Osborne

Girls: Sylvan-Lucas 58, Osborne 51

Sylvan-Lucas and Osborne met up in Northern Plains League action on Tuesday, January 28 in Osborne.

The girls game was a see-saw battle from start to finish with the two teams trading the lead 15 times and hitting 15 combined 3-pointers. Sylvan-Lucas took a 15-13 lead after one quarter and went up 24-17 midway through the second. Osborne closed the half on a 14-6 run and led 31-30 at the break. The two teams continued to trade the lead throughout the third quarter with the Lady Dogs on top 46-41 going to the fourth. In the final quarter, Sylvan-Lucas came back to tie the game at 51 with just over two minutes remaining before closing the game on a 7-0 run for a 58-51 victory. The Mustangs controlled the boys game from start to finish and won 63-24. Sylvan-Lucas led 13-3 after one quarter, 45-8 at halftime and 57-16 after three quarters to win for the eighth time in nine games since starting the season 1-4.

Maggie Labertew had a big game for the Sylvan-Lucas girls (8-5 overall, 5-0 NPL). The senior guard hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points. LeeAllie Wacker followed with 3 three's and 15 points. The Lady Mustangs nailed nine 3-pointers as a team. Osborne (9-5, 4-1) put three players in double-figures. Addison Poore scored 11 points and Klaire Eilert and Leavie Riner each had 10. Eilert buried three of her team's six 3-pointers.

In the boys game, Sylvan-Lucas (9-5, 4-1) had 13 players score led by Carter Johnson who had 11 points, Lane Brokes with 10 and Zayne Maupin with eight. Osborne (0-14, 0-5) was led by Preston Wagoner with six points.

Sylvan-Lucas and Osborne are both back in action on Friday, January 31. The Mustangs host Otis-Bison, while the Bulldogs go to Lakeside.
