K-18 Baseball Takes Regional Opener, Clinches State Berth

The Russell K-18 Baseball team opened play at the East Regional Tournament Tuesday evening on a successful note with an 8-2 win over Concordia F&A at the Concordia Sports Complex.

Wyatt Griffin was the winning pitcher for Russell, giving up just two hits in five innings of work while Max Evans closed out the win by pitching the last two frames.

With the victory, Russell (6-6) assured itself a spot in the K-18 State Tournament which begins on July 23 in Lucas.  Russell will face Lincoln in the semifinals on Thursday evening.  Lincoln took down Linn-Washington 10-1 later Tuesday evening.  CCABA (Clay Center) defeated Smith Center 7-2 while Clifton-Clyde outlasted Beloit Red 15-8..
