NATOMA-Senior Javon Letsch rushed for 175 yards and six touchdowns and scored nine total touchdowns as the Natoma Tigers rolled to their first victory of the 2022 season with a 64-19 rout of Burrton in 6-Man Football action Friday evening at Tiger Field.

Natoma, the defending 6-Man State Champion, which lost four starters to graduation and saw another key starter transfer, had gotten off to a rough start with shutout losses at Northern Valley and Cunningham in their first two games.  The home opener was just what the Tigers and their new head coach Aaron Murphy needed to get back on track.

Letsch got the scoring started with a three-yard run, giving Natoma their first points of the season and a 6-0 lead.  The Chargers then scored on their first possession and ran in the one-point conversion to lead 7-6.  Natoma regained the lead late in the first quarter when Quarterback Ricky Mayberry lll connected with Letsch for a 38-yard touchdown pass and the conversion made it 13-6 in favor of the Tigers.

Burrton tied the score 13-13 just 21 seconds later on a 72-yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Cam Schmidt to fullback Josh Phillips.

Natoma broke on top again 19-13 early in the second quarter on a two-yard run by Letsch but the Chargers re-tied the score 13 seconds later when Noble Phillips ran back the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown.

Natoma then took control of the game, scoring 25 unanswered points to close the first half on runs of 16 and seven yards by Letsch, a three-yard run by Trentin Maupin and a 78-yard interception return for a score by Letsch to give Natoma a commanding 44-19 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Letsch scored Natoma's last three touchdowns on runs of 38 and 33 yards and a 35-yard pass from Mayberry.  Letsch then kicked through the two-point conversion to end the game with 9:48 left in the fourth quarter.

In addition to his rushing numbers, Letsch caught four passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns for a total of 300 all-purpose yards.  The Natoma defense after giving up two early scores forced five Charger turnovers and held Burrton's explosive running attack to just 26 yards.

Natoma (1-2, 1-1) will be on the road next Friday, September 23 at Southern Cloud while Burrton (2-1, 1-1) returns home to battle Chase.
