MCL Tournament Brackets Announced, Russell Plays Saturday

Brackets are now set for the Mid-Continent League basketball tournament to be held January 16-23.

First round games will be played on Saturday, January 16 with the top four seeds receiving byes.  Quarterfinal games are Monday and Tuesday, January 18-19. Semifinal games are Thursday and Friday, January 21-22. Consolation and championship games are Saturday, January 23. Teams who lose first round games on January 16 will play three games in the tournament. Those teams play consolation games on January 18-19 and in the 9th or 11th place games on January 21.

On the boys side, Hoxie (6-0), Ellis (7-0), Trego (6-2) and Norton (6-2) are the top four seeds and received first round byes. For the girls, Phillipsburg (8-0), Trego (7-1), TMP-Marian (6-1) and Ellis (6-1) are the top four seeds and also received first round byes.

The Russell boys drew the #8 seed with a 4-4 record and will play Hill City (3-3) on Saturday at 4:30 PM in the first round at the Stockton High School Gym.

The Russell girls are seeded ninth with a 3-5 mark and open against Oakley (4-4) on Saturday at 4:30 PM in the first round at the Plainville Cardinal Gym.

Both Russell games will be broadcast on Russell Radio on Saturday. The Russell girls game will be on KRSL AM 990, 98.1 FM and streamed on KRSL.com. The Russell boys game will be on KRSL 95.9 and also streamed on KRSL.com.
