The Russell High School girls basketball team lost 55-39 to Phillipsburg on Friday, January 8 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.
The Lady Panthers led 11-6 after one quarter, 24-21 at halftime, stretched the lead to 40-30 after three periods and pulled away in the final frame.
Rylan Reeves led Russell with 16 points and 13 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season. Aniya Stierlen recorded 11 boards.
Taryn Sides paced Phillipsburg with 13 points. Meredith Jacobs and Heather Schemper each scored 10 points.
The Lady Panthers outrebounded the Lady Broncos 32 to 30, but Russell had the advantage on the offensive glass 14 to 10.
The Russell girls fall to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-Continent League.
The Russell boys also lost to Phillipsburg, 55-41.
The Panthers led 16-8 after the first quarter, 30-18 at the break and 47-27 after the third. The Broncos made a couple runs in the fourth period, but Phillipsburg pulled away in the final minutes.
Jordayn Buhrle paced Russell with 10 points. Braydon Gibson followed with nine points.
Joel Ford led the Panthers with 15 points. Ty Sides followed with 13 points and Kagan Keeten scored 12 points.
Russell outrebounded Phillipsburg 38 to 33 and eight to six on the offensive glass.
The Russell boys fall to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the MCL.
