Regional Roundup: Three Area Runners Make State

Regional cross country meets were held across Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Russell sent two runners to the Lakin 3A Regional. Camille Dortland, a senior, finished 26th in the girls race with a time of 23:08. Freshman Sam Whitten ran a 21:14 and placed 59th. Neither qualified for state.

Runners from Natoma and Sylvan-Lucas ran in the Centralia 1A Regional and three qualified for state - Natoma's Bree Fast and Zach Rose and Harlan Pancost from Sylvan-Lucas. Fast, a freshman, placed fifth with time of 21:51 in the girls race. Rose took fifth in the boys race with a 18:13. Pancost ran a 19:02 and was 15th. Sylvan-Lucas had two other runners compete in the boys race and one in the girls race. Kolton Palmer had a time of 19:37 and was 21st. Hagen Starkey was 58th with a 22:00. Mekelle Hurlbut was 45th with a 28:08.

Victoria's Sarah Housley ran in the girls race at the Ness City 1A Regional and placed 40th with a time of 26:43. Benjamin Housley from Victoria posted a 22:30 and was 45th in the boys race.

The 1A State Cross Country meet will be held in Victoria at Sand Plum Nature Trail on Saturday, Oct. 30. The 1A boys run at 10:40 AM and the 1A girls follow at 12 PM.
