RHS Boys Finish Fourth, Girls Sixth at Lyons Invitational

The Russell High School boys took fourth place and the girls sixth at the Lyons Invitational on Friday, April 9.

Russell was one of 10 schools who competed in the track and field meet. The RHS boys finished with 57 points and the girls with 40 points. Macksville ran off with the boys team title with 117 points, while Larned cruised to the girls team title with 133 points.

Jesse Whitmer and Brayden Strobel led the Russell boys. Whitmer won the 100 and 200 M dashes. Strobel tied for first in the pole vault and was third in the high jump. Jacob Ney tied for third in the pole vault and was fifth in the 200 M dash. Jace Peerman finished second in the high jump. Nate Henderson was third in the shot put. The 4x400 M relay team ended up in sixth place.

For the RHS girls, Renee Nichol won the long jump and was second in the triple jump. Hannah Banks took fifth in both the 100 M and 200 M dashes. Rylan Reeves placed fifth in the 300 M hurdles and sixth in the 100 M hurdles. Camille Dortland was fourth in the 800 M run. Lilly Garland finished fourth in the pole vault. Abi Banks placed fifth in the high jump. The 4x400 M relay team was fifth.
