RHS Boys, Girls Both Finish 5th at Wheaton Relays in Lyons
Competing in less than ideal conditions and short a few athletes, the Russell boys and girls track and field teams both finished fifth at the Wheaton Relays held in Lyons on Friday, April 10.
The RHS girls ended up with 53 points, while the boys had 44. Moundridge won the girls team title with 151 points. Little River took the boys title with 127. Nine teams competed in the meet.
Individually for Russell,
- Reese Owens placed 3rd in Pole Vault
- Karrsyn Ross finished 5th in Triple Jump
- Hayden Creamer took 2nd in Pole Vault and 3rd in High Jump
- Tessa Hettinger placed 6th in High Jump and 4th in the 200 M Dash
- Ashtyn Barrera finished 3rd in Pole Vault
- Averie Counts took 1st in Pole Vault and 5th in the 1600 M Run
- Tegan Kuntzsch was 3rd in High Jump
- Ian Strobel placed 3rd in Discus and 4th in Shot Put
- Robert Klee finished 4th in Discus and 5th in Shot Put
- PJ Wagner took 4th in Javelin
- Madeleine Middleton placed 2nd in Javelin
- Trey Zorn finished 3rd in the 400
- Girls 4x800 relay placed 2nd (Averie Counts, Ashtyn Barrera, Camry Ney and Tessa Hettinger)
- Boys 4x400 relay was 4th (PJ Wagner, Cooper Ney, Karrsyn Ross and Trey Zorn)
Russell competes in the Smith Center Invitational on Tuesday, April 14. Events begin at 3 PM.
