RHS Golf Wins Season Opener at Hoisington
The Russell High School Boys Golf team opened the 2026 season by winning the Murphy Memorial Tournament hosted by Hoisington High School on Thursday at the Lake Barton Golf Club.
Senior golfer Jake Mooney, a three-time state qualifier, won the individual tournament title with a score of 10 over par 80, edging Mason Martin of Hoisington by two strokes. Solomon Moreland also medaled for Russell by finishing with a 14 over par 84, good enough for third place.
Other results for Russell golfers are as follows:
Braxton Parsons tied for 4th with 15 over par 85
Tyler Neal placed ninth with 18 over par 88
Slayde Nuss placed 15th with 22 over par 92
Aiden Dinkel placed 16th with 25 over par 95
The Broncos won the debut tournament for new coach Brent Mooney with a team score of 337, outlasting host Hoisington by four strokes. Larned, Ellsworth and Ness City also competed in the tournament.
