RHS Sports News and Notes - May 5

The Russell High School Varsity Boys Golf meet scheduled for Thursday, May 5 in Ellsworth has been postponed until Friday, May 6.  

Additionally, the Baseball doubleheader between Russell-Victoria and TMP-Marian-La Crosse has been officially canceled after the two schools could not find a reasonable date to resume the games.  

Russell-Victoria held a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning of Game 1 of the doubleheader on April 29 at the Shaffer Field Sports Complex when high winds which resulted in heavy dust caused the game to be suspended.  At the time, there were two outs and one more out would have made the game official and Russell-Victoria would have been awarded a win.  The game earlier had been delayed by lightning for nearly an hour and half.  

A gust front from nearby thunderstorms caused the high winds which blew dirt around from the Baseball diamond causing poor visibility for the players on the field.  An hour after the games were called, Russell Municipal Airport measured sustained winds at 71 MPH with a wind gust of 92 MPH.
