RHS Track Wraps Regular Season at Victoria's Pfeifer Invitational

The Russell High School Track teams completed the regular season Thursday by making the short 17-mile trip to Victoria for the Tony "Red" Pfeifer Invitational.
The Lady Broncos finished fifth as a team with 79 points while Ellis won the team title 126 points. The RHS Boys were seventh with 16 points while Trego claimed the team title with 126 points, edging out second place Plainville by four points.
Highlights for the Lady Broncos included Aubrey Birney winning the Triple Jump, finishing second in the Long Jump and third in the High Jump. Macy Patterson finished fifth and Norah Dreiling sixth in the Shot Put. Patterson also finished third in the Discus Throw. Maddie Middleton won the Javenlin Throw. On the track, the 4x800-Meter Relay team of Averie Counts, Jaden Ney, Annika Nichols and Madi Wieger defeated TMP-Marian in a two-team race. Counts finished fifth in the 1,600-Meter Run, Ney placed second in the 300-Meter Hurdles and the 4x400-Meter Relay team consisting of Counts, Parish Laurie, Ney and Nichols finished third.
On the Boys side, Kolten Jones fnishied fourth in the High Jump and sixth in the Long Jump. Walker Middleton finished sixth in the Javelin Throw and Kaleb Ives-Thull finshed fourth in the 3,200-Meter Relay.
Russell also took part in a co-ed Throwers 4x100-Meter Relay and won the event with the team consisting of Birney, Jones, Abby Strobel and Ian Strobel.
The Russell runners and throwers will now travel to Hill City for the Mid-Continent League meet on Thursday, May 15. Events begin at 3 p.m.
