The Russell Recreation youth basketball season officially got underway on Saturday, January 8.

Russell has partnered with the Claflin, Ellinwood, Ellsworth and Hoisington recreation commissions again this winter to form the Central Kansas Recreation League. Each team hosts one Saturday of games.

Russell was selected to host the first Saturday of games. 36 teams combined to play 19 total games at Russell High School's Amos Morris Gym and Little Gym.

Teams were divided up into four divisions - boys 3rd/4th grade, boys 5th/6th grade, girls 3rd/4th grade and girls 5th/6th grade.

Over 300 players participated and it was estimated more than 1,000 people attended Saturday's games.
