Russell Girls Fall at Stockton in MCL Tournament Consolation Matchup

The Russell High School girls basketball team lost 53-21 at Stockton on Thursday, January 19 in a consolation semifinal of the Mid-Continent League Tournament.

Nine-seed Stockton led 12-5 after the first quarter, 29-7 at intermission and 43-15 after three frames. Most of the fourth period was played with a running clock and the Lady Tigers cruised to the 53-21 win.

Junior Harlee Donovan led the 12-seed Lady Broncos with 10 points. Sophomore Hannah Krug had seven rebounds.

Sophomore Brooke Kephart paced Stockton with 16 points, followed by sophomore Brin Muir with 11 points and sophomore Aubrey Kesler with 10 points.

Russell outrebounded Stockton 29 to 27 overall, but the Lady Tigers had the 10 to 7 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Lady Broncos also committed 31 turnovers compared to just 14 for Stockton.

The Russell girls fall to 0-11 overall and remain 0-4 in the league.

The Russell girls close out the MCL Tournament on Saturday, January 21. The Lady Broncos will play Plainville in the 11th place game on Saturday at 10 AM at the Trego Community High School Auxiliary Gym in WaKeeney. 10-seed Hill City defeated 11-seed Plainville 35-24 on Thursday.
