The Russell High School football team scored a 22-0 shutout win over rival TMP-Marian at Lewis Field in Hays on Friday, September 30.

Neither team scored in the first quarter.

Russell (3-2 overall, 1-1 Class 2A District 8, 3-1 Mid-Continent League) scored its first touchdown of the game with just 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter on a 70-yard pass from senior quarterback Wyatt Middleton to senior wide receiver Jace Peerman. It was a three-play, 96-yard drive. Senior kicker Charlie Krug's extra point kick was good and the Broncos led 7-0 at halftime.

At the 9:35 mark in the third period, Russell's Middleton connected with Peerman again for another touchdown, this time from 15 yards out. The two-point conversion was no good and Russell led 13-0 after three frames.

Russell senior running back Jacob Ney finished a 10-play, 88-yard drive with a one-yard TD run at the 7:51 mark in the fourth quarter. The PAT was no good, but with 5:22 left in the contest, Krug made a 31-yard field goal and Russell completed the shutout with a 22-0 victory.

Russell outgained TMP (3-2 overall, 0-1 Class 2A District 8, 3-1 MCL) 318 total yards to 171. The Broncos finished with 89 yards on the ground and 229 yards through the air. The Monarchs finished with 160 yards rushing and just 11 yards passing.
