Russell Wrestlers Donner and Trevino Compete at Shrine Duals

Two Wrestlers from the Russell High School Wrestling program took part in the third annual Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Kansas Shrine Duals on Saturday, March 28 at Newman University's Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita. 

Xzephren Donner from the RHS Boys Wrestling team defeated Brodie Starcher of Tonganoxie by a 4-0 decision in a 125-pound match.  Donner (Class 3-2-1A) and Starcher (Class 4A) both finished second in their respective classifications at the recently held State Wrestling Tournaments.

Mya Trevino from the Class 3-2-1A State Champion RHS Girls Wrestling team lost her 145-pound match to Yaneli Carranza of Emporia by a 12-2 major decision.  Carranza was not originally on the East roster and was a late addition to the event.  

Both Donner and Trevino represented the West squad in Wichita.  

Donner, a four-time state qualifier and a State Champion at 113 pounds in 2025 before finishing second in 2026, concluded his high school career with a 139-33 record and will continue his Wrestling career at Fort Hays State University.

Trevino, a three-time state qualifier went 112-37 in three seasons for the Lady Broncos after joining the program for her sophomore season.  Her best finish was fourth at 115 pounds in 2025.  Trevino will continue her Wrestling career at Barton Community College.

The East squad defeated the West squad at the Shrine Duals by a score of 85-70.
