Russell's Cole Birky closed out his high school career with a top-30 finish at the Class 3A State Boys Golf Tournament in Hesston on Tuesday, May 25.

After shooting an opening round 88 on Monday, the RHS senior posted an 80 on Tuesday to finish 29th out of 105 golfers.

This was Birky's third state tournament appearance. He made state as a freshman and sophomore, but did not have the opportunity as a junior as COVID-19 caused the season to be canceled.

Lucas Scheufler from Wichita Trinity Academy won the individual title. He shot a 69 on Tuesday to finish 5-under for the tournament and beat runner-up Jackson Rader of Marysville by five strokes.

Santa Fe Trail came from behind on Tuesday to beat day one leader Cheney 639 to 653 to win the team title.
