Russell's Mooney Finishes Fourth at 3A State
Russell's Jake Mooney capped off his high school career on Wednesday, May 27 with a fourth-place finish at the Class 3A Boys State Golf Tournament at the Lake Shawnee Course in Topeka.
The RHS senior shot a 79 to finish with a two day score of 152. Mooney, who was making his fourth trip to state, started the day in third after posting a 73 on Tuesday.
Landon Langston from Wichita Collegiate won the individual title with 145. He shot a 75 on Wednesday after a first round 70 on Tuesday.
Also for Russell, Braxton Parsons posted an 89 on Wednesday and tied for 46th place with a two round score of 173.
Wichita Collegiate won the team title with a 606, beating second-place Hesston by 11 strokes. This was 21st state championship for Collegiate in school history in boys golf, all coming since 1990. As a team, Russell finished 12th.
After making the cut on Tuesday at the 1A State Tournament in McPherson, Victoria's Aiden Dinkel shot a second round score of 93 and finished with a 181 to tie for 37th. Gavin Wahl from South Gray won the individual title with a 141.
Lakeside won its sixth consecutive Sand Greens State title this week at the Mankato Country Club. The Knights' team score of 292 out-paced second place St. John's-Beloit by 18 strokes. Lincoln finished fourth at the tournament with a score of 319, five strokes behind third place Clifton-Clyde. Freshman Bentley Melby of Pike Valley won the individual state title. 2026 is the final year that the Sand Greens State Championship is being sanctioned by KSHSAA.
