Coming off a freshman season which saw her post a 31-5 record and finish third at the Class 4-1A Girls State Wrestling Tournament, Russell's Jaden Ney will begin her sophomore campaign with the top ranking in her weight class.

Ney checks in at #1 at 135 pounds in the preseason rankings released last week by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association.  During the 2021-22 season, Ney won league and regional titles at 132 pounds, won six of 12 meets and placed second in five other events.

While no Girls teams from the Mid-Continent League made the preseason top 10, defending state champion Hoxie checks in at #1 on the Boys side with perennial power Norton ranked #3 and Smith Center right behind the Bluejays at #4.  Also in the top 10 are Phillipsburg at #6, Hill City at #8 and Ellis at #10.

Both Russell Wrestling teams begin the 2022-23 season on Saturday, December 3 at Hoxie.
