Russell's Nichol and Whitmer Shine in Hillsboro
The Russell High School track and field team competed in the James Thomas Invitational in Hillsboro on Friday, April 30.
Jessie Whitmer and Renee Nichol each had impressive days for RHS. Whitmer won the 100 and 200 M dashes. Nichol took gold in the long jump and placed fourth in the triple jump.
Also for Russell, Jacob Ney finished fifth in both the 400 M dash and pole vault, Jace Peerman was third in the high jump and the boys 4x100 relay team took first.
17 schools participated in the meet. The Russell boys placed eighth with 40 points and the girls finished 14th with 14 points. Inman took the boys team title with 88 points, while Smoky Valley easily won the girls team title with 127 points.
RHS hosts its annual Russell Relays on Friday, May 7 at Shaffer Field. Events begin at 3 PM.
