Russell's Windholz, Sylvan-Lucas' Barrientes Advance to Sub-State

Two area wrestlers have advanced to the Class 3-2-1A Sub-State Tournament in Minneapolis on Saturday, February 20.

Russell's Jacob Windholz and Sylvan-Lucas' Tra Barrientes both qualified after finishing in the top four of the weight divisions at their respective regional tournaments on Friday, February 12.

Windholz went 3-1 and took third place at 138 pounds at the Trego Regional. Barrientes went 3-0 and won the 285 pound division at the Hillsboro Regional.

Overall, Russell had seven wrestlers compete in WaKeeney on Friday at Trego Community High School. Here are the individual results...

152 - Brayden Strobel (1-3, 6th)
170 - Jesse Whitmer (1-3, 6th)

285 - Max Self (2-2, 5th)

Saturday's sub-state tournament begins at 12 PM at the Minneapolis High School gym. We'll have sub-state reports on KRSL AM 990, 98.1  FM and 95.9 FM and coverage on KRSL.com.
