Six RHS Athletes Qualify for 3A State Track and Field Meet
Russell's Kinsey Zorn captured the 800-Meter Run title in the Class 3A Track and Field Regional on Thursday in Beloit and will defend her State title in the event at the State Track meet next week in Wichita.
Zorn won the event with a time of 2:23.95, edging out Southeast of Saline's Piper Brown by just under three tenths of a second. Zorn, who has won back-to-back individual State Championships in Girls Wrestling and who was part of the Lady Broncos' State Championship Wrestling squad earlier this year, will now try to win consecutive State Championships on the track as well.
Zorn also qualified for the State meet in the 400-Meter Run by finishing second at Regionals. Russell's Macy Patterson qualified for the State meet in the Discus and the Shot Put
Zorn also qualified for a third State event as the Girls 4x800-Meter Relay team that also includes Averie Counts, Tessa Hettinger and Madi Wieger will be heading to Wichita.
On the Boys side, Ian Strobel has qualified for State in the Discus.
The Lady Broncos as a team finished 10th with 32 points while the RHS Boys placed 15th with one point. Beloit captured the Girls Regional team title on its home track with 122.5 points, beating out second place Southeast of Saline by 53 and a half points. The Southeast of Saline Boys won the Regional Championship with 86 points, outdistancing second place Norton by 22 points.
The Class 3A State meet will be held at Wichita's Cessna Stadium along with all other classes on May 29 and 30.
