Strobel Wins 3A High Jump Title, Peerman Places 3rd
Russell High School senior Brayden Strobel put an exclamation point on his high school sports career by winning the Class 3A state championship in the high jump with a personal best of 6'4" at Wichita's Cessna Stadium.
Strobel's teammate and fellow senior Jace Peerman, who won state in this same event during his sophomore season in 2021, had a jump of 6'4". Peerman set the school and MCL league record of 6'9" in the high jump at the MCL league meet recently.
In other events on Friday, the boys 4 x 100 meter relay team of Strobel, Peerman, Walker Middleton and Jacob Ney placed finished sixth in their preliminary race on Friday and advances to the finals on Saturday. Macy Patterson threw 108'7", which is a six foot personal best to finish 11th in the Class 3A girls discus throw. Later Friday, Strobel, who competed in four sports this year at RHS, brought home his second medal of the day with an eighth place finish in the Class 3A boys long jump.
In addition to the boys 4 x 100 meter relay team competing in the finals, Ney will also run the 100 meter dash preliminary heat at 9 a.m. Saturday.
