Three Area Girls Tennis Players Fall Just Short of State
Heading into Day 2 of the KSHSAA Class 3-2-1A Regional at Trego Community High School in WaKeeney, two Girls Tennis players from Russell and one from Victoria needed one win to qualify for the State Tournament.
It was not meant to be however as all were defeated in their opening matches of the day.
For Russell, the doubles team of Hailey Gier and Anna-Marie Marsell fell to Annabelle Schneider and Mia Reynolds of Greeley County in straight sets by scores of 6-4 and 7-6 with the second set decided 8-6 in a tie-breaker.
For Victoria, Aurora Nowlin also saw her season end in the singles tournament with a loss in straight sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-1 to Valorie Solida of Phillipsburg.
After competing throughout the regular season as a Victoria-Russell co-op, KSHSAA rules required the two schools to compete separately in posteason tournaments. In all, six players between the two schools qualified for Reginals.
