Three Broncos Earn Gold at MCL League Meet

Hill City hosted the Mid-Continent League track and field meet on Thursday, 13 at Ringneck Stadium.

Phillipsburg edged Norton 93 to 83 to win the girls team title, while Trego topped second-place Hoxie 93 to 85 to take the boys team title. The Russell boys finished sixth with 43.5 points. The Russell girls were ninth with 26 points.

Jesse Whitmer led the RHS boys, winning both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Jace Peerman took gold in the high jump. Braydon Strobel was third in the high jump and tied for sixth in the pole vault. Jacob Ney finished sixth in the 400 M run. The boys 4x100 relay team was third.

For the RHS girls, Renee Nichol won the long jump and finished second in both the triple jump and 100 M dash.

Russell turns its sights now to the Class 3A Regional meet on Friday, May 21 in Beloit. Joining Russell in the regional are Beloit, Ellsworth, Southeast of Saline, TMP-Marian, Hiawatha, Hoisington, Smoky Valley, Marysville, Minneapolis, Norton, Phillipsburg, Riley County, Sabetha, Nemeha Central and Rock Creek.
