Victoria Girls Trounce Otis-Bison
VICTORIA-Brooklyn Kuhn scored all of her game-high 12 points during a blistering 23-point third quarter as the Victoria Lady Knights cruised to a 44-22 victory over Otis-Bison in their home and Central Prairie League opener Friday evening.
The Boys contest between the two schools was postponed until a later date due to COVID protocols within the Otis-Bison program.
Both teams which hadn't played since mid-December were sluggish early as the score remained 2-0 Victoria for several minutes in the opening quarter before the teams battled to a 7-7 tie after the first eight minutes. The Lady Knights then used a suffocating defense and a key three-point play to bolt out to a 17-9 halftime advantage.
After Otis-Bison's Johannah Baalman knocked down a three-pointer during the first 30 seconds of the third period to draw the Lady Cougars to within 17-14, Victoria went on a 14-0 run to lead 31-14 and they never looked back.
Macy Hammerschmidt added seven points for Victoria which had 10 players score at least one point. Lauren Maier led Otis-Bison with eight points. The Lady Cougars were hindered when two key players including their leading scorer Halee Morrison fouled out before the third quarter was over.
Victoria (3-3, 1-0 CPL) will travel with the Boys to Stockton Tuesday, January 12 for a non-league doubleheader.
