Macy Hammerschmidt of Victoria recently signed a National Letter of Intent to compete in Track and Field at Fort Hays State University.

Hammerschmidt will become a part of the Tiger Track and Field team coached by Dr. Jason McCullough.  She will join Russell's Jace Peerman who also signed with the Tigers earlier this spring.  Hammerschmidt made it official during a signing ceremony held in the Library at Victoria High School where she was surrounded by family and friends.

Hammerschmidt is a two-time defending Class 1A State Champion in the Long Jump.  In 2022, she won the event at Wichita's Cessna Stadium with a jump of 17' 8.75" which improved upon the mark of 16' 9.25" that helped her win the crown in the 2021.  Hammershcmidt also finished second at state last season in the 100-meter dash by just one hundredth of a second.

Hammerschmidt and the Knights will compete in the upcoming Class 1A Regional on Friday, May 19 in Tribune.  The State Track meet will be back in Wichita May 26 and 27.
