Bomgaars Acquires Former Russell Shopko Store

Bomgaars Supply, Inc., a farm and ranch chain based in Sioux City, Iowa, recently purchased the former Shopko building in Russell.

Torrey Wingert, Chief Executive Officer of Bomgaars, confirmed the purchase saying, “We look forward to providing our very popular lines of products to serve the people of this community.”

The 21,000 square foot store is located at 87 South Fossil Street in Russell. Approximately 12 to 15 employees from the local area will be hired for a variety of positions, with a hiring fair taking place in mid-March. The store is currently scheduled to open for business in the spring of 2021.

Bomgaars is a fourth-generation company, privately owned by Roger and Jane Bomgaars. The corporate office and distribution center is headquartered in Sioux City, Iowa, where the company originated in 1952. Over the past 68 years Bomgaars has continually reinvested in the company to construct new buildings, enlarge or renovate existing ones and add locations as opportunities present themselves. With 96 stores currently in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming, the company has approximately 2,700 employees. The company also recently announced plans to open nine new stores this spring, bringing them to over 100 stores and opening them up to the Kansas market for the first time.
