Lucas Public Library Receives Grants for Outdoor Mural

The Lucas Public Library was recently informed it was chosen to receive three grants to help with an outdoor mural to be painted on the south side of the library building at 135 South Main Street in Lucas.

The grants include a Post Rock Community Foundation grant in the amount of $1,000, a Dane G. Hansen Community Grant through the Russell County Area Community Foundation in the amount of $3,000 and a National Endowment for the Arts grant through the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission in the amount of $10,000.

The project, set to begin in July, will be headed by Erika Nelson of Lucas in conjunction with the Lucas Public Library and the City of Lucas.

A series of information-gathering meetings will be held in which the community can give input into the content of the mural.
