Revitalize Russell and the Downtown Streetscape Committee are continuing to make progress in the downtown historic park project.

Most recently, the committee has selected local contractor Stoppel Construction to build the downtown visitors center with restroom. The splash pad equipment and historic themed playground set have been ordered.

On Tuesday, September 7, the Russell City Council voted to allow the use of Duke Johnson funds to wrap up the funding for the project. The committee is currently waiting on two additional grants. In the event the committee is awarded funds from both grants, the amount needed in Duke Johnson funds could potentially change. The total project cost is estimated at $633,000. 85 percent of the funds have been received through private donations and grant funds.

The committee is eager for construction to begin, which is anticipated to begin this fall. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2022.

Revitalize Russell will continue to accept donations for the historic park and also for the next project, the downtown market.
