A Russell County USD 407 activity bus was involved in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Barton County.

There were no serious injuries reported.

USD 407 Superintendent Jordan Perez released the following information.

Shortly before 10 AM, USD 407 officials were notified that one of their activity buses was involved in a crash in Barton County. The bus was transporting the Russell High School baseball team to Liberal. The crash was caused by high winds blowing dust across the roadway, causing zero visibility. The crash occurred at low speeds due to drivers slowing down to navigate the challenging conditions.

Upon learning the news, USD 407 Transportation Director Barb Evans, RHS Principal Dallas Woolf and USD 407 Superintendent Jordan Perez convened to form a communication plan, as well as plan to get the USD 407 employees and students home safely. Evans, Woolf and Perez drove USD 407 vehicles to transport the students and staff.

Perez said a huge shoutout goes to USD 407 School Resource Officer Trevor Musgrove for taking over communications while they transported students and staff back to Russell. Officer Musgrove contacted all families who were impacted by the accident.

Perez also thanks Barton County first responders and emergency services for taking swift action and keeping the students and staff safe. Perez said they were in good hands and the support given was greatly appreciated.

Perez said they are proud of how everyone responded and are glad that everyone is home safe.

Tuesday's Russell-Victoria baseball games at Liberal were canceled and will not be rescheduled according to USD 407.
